Sao Filipe is the capital of the capeverdian island of Fogo. The historic center is located on a plateau 40 meters above the atlantic. At the border of this plateau you will find the guesthouse “Som do Mar”.

 Only a few  tourists normaly stay some days in Sao Filipe and they are more interested in the great attraction of the island - the vulcano Pico do Fogo.

On th other side the “Som do Mar” borders on a little street leading down to the head of the plateau.

Due to the pleasant mixture of leisure and liveliness, Sao Filipe and the “Som do Mar” are ideal for a long-time-stay, particularly in winter.

The “Som do Mar” from the air:

From the terrace, which is partly shaded, you have a lovely view over the sea towards the neighbour-island of Brava, the Bordeira or down to the beach, which is deserted most of the time. Sometimes some boys are playing soccer or fishermen are busy with their boats.

At the seaside, the Som do Mar borders on a foot-path with a little wall. Sitting down on this wall in the shadow of a tree will tell the neighbours, that you are in the mood for some small-talk. And even not speaking portugese or criole, you will have friendly contacts with your neighbours.

Inside the house you will find two apartments with an entrance towards the patio, which is partly shaded.

Towards the street exists another one-room-apartment with a spacious bath. Both apartments are equiped with a safe.

Weekly housecleaning with changing of the towels and bedclothes is part of the service. But if you ask her, Luisa will also clean your personal clothes ...and she is a real good cook.
